6. DVR Live TV with Tablo
One downside to cutting the cost is that you lose access to DVR technology unless you are using a Tablo OTA DVR.
You can capture programming in HD on up to six computers that can be accessed on request. Now you can record that ball game or television episode that you couldn’t sit down and watch in full.
These standalone DVR devices did not exist a few years ago. Since we no longer have VCRs to record your favorite shows, there has been a “recording gap” for a couple of years, and many people have been prevented from canceling their subscription to the cable.
Now, when Tablo connects to any smart device connected to your home WiFi or ethernet, the problem is solved.
7. Crackle
Crackle allows free viewing of new and classic TV shows and movies from any screen. Although you may choose to download the app to your Roku computer, it is not necessary.
Joining is free, and with limited commercial breaks, you can watch unlimited content. Crackle produces original content, like the paid streaming platforms like Netflix or Hulu.
8. Snagfilms
Snagfilms is right up your alley if you like to watch documentaries. They have a collection of more than 10,000 films about a variety of topics and individual characters for adults, kids, and families.
Snagfilms also provides some fantasy programming that can take you back to England or a series of TV comedies from the 18th century.
